The Forum Organizing Committee has received an official letter from UNECE; it reads that Ján Kubiš accepts the invitation to the MIEF-2011 and will present a report at the International Conference «Global Energy Safety: New Agenda».
The UN Economic Commission for Europe is one of five regional commissions of the United Nations. It was established in 1947 by the UN Economical and Social Council (ECOSOC) to promote the economic activities and strengthen the economic links within the UNECE region, as well as between the region and the rest of the world. The Commission has 56 member States. The Commission works in contact with 70 international official and non-governmental organizations all over the world.
During the Cold War, UNECE successfully maintained the dialog between the East and the West. Presently, UNECE focuses its efforts on constructing the economic and social Europe of tomorrow. Numerous UNECE events in the sectors of transport, environment, statistics, energy, trade, economic cooperation and integration, as well as technical cooperation, enable the organization to deal with most tasks of the XXI century.
The governments treat UNECE as a regional forum to develop conventions, norms and standards aimed at harmonizing the exchange of views between the member States. By functioning in this way, UNECE provides the customers with security and quality guarantees, assists in the environment protection, simplifies the trade procedures, promotes more close unity of the member States within the region, and encourages their fuller integration into the world economy.
