Press Release of the First Open Session of the MIEF-2013 Program Committee «World Power Industry: New Development Vectors»

26 September 2012

At the first open session of the MIEF-2013 Program Committee, the leading researchers and experts of the energy sector formulated the main topic of the next energy forum «Russian Fuel and Energy Complex in the XXI Century» to be held in April 2013 in Moscow. «Profound Changes in the Global Power Industry and New Challenges for Russia»
The unprecedented pace observed in the development of the renewable energy generation and production of unconventional sources; the impressive progress in fuel/energy usage efficiency around the world; the rapid development of the new global market of innovative energy and green technologies – these are the trends forming the new structure of the global energy system. It becomes more and more diversified, clean, hi-tech and flexible. Simultaneously, the supply/demand proportion in the global energy markets changes rapidly.
In the new situation around the global competitive battle, the winner will be the country that can timely adapt its energy strategy for the long-term trends of the global science and technological development and integrate – to the possible extent - its energy sector with the new nature of the global economic system.
At the Forum’s plenary discussion, the leading world and Russian experts in energy policy, economics, financing and forecasting will discuss the dramatic changes observed in the global power industry and Russia’s stance in the global energy markets for today and by 2030. Meanwhile, with due account of the approaches of the XXI century, they will try to voice the recommendations for serious upgrading of the traditional Russian energy strategy based on the raw-material advantage in the context of industrial hydrocarbons energy generation.
The Program Committee members approved the Directorate’s suggestion on conduct – in the second half of November 2012 – of the round table with international guests; the round table is to consider the main topic of the MIEF-2013.
