MIEF-2012 Outcomes

7 April 2012

The Moscow International Energy Forum «Russian Fuel and Energy Complex in the XXI Century» (MIEF-2012) finished its work. On April, 7 in CEH «Manezh», the joint session of the Organizing and Program Committees summarized the forum. The session participants were satisfied to note that the jubilee tenth forum was a worthy event to crown up the long, systematic and laborious preparation process. According to the Committees, the high organizational and intellectual level of the forum preparation helped the event both to meet the organizers’ expectations and to excel all the previous forums, especially in terms of arrangement of the namesake exhibition. The session unanimously agreed that the forum’s main topic «World Energy and Sustainable Development» proved to be interesting both for event participants and mass media. This topic, though being conceptually ambiguous and relatively new, enabled the forum speakers to develop open conversation and original discussion to reveal entirely new meanings and contexts of the interrelations between the power industry and society, power industry and sustainable development, human and biosystem. The forum organizers highlighted the activity demonstrated by the business sector representatives and their readiness to discuss their new role and new mission in terms of sustainable development.
The session considered the comments and suggestions on the Forum Concluding Declaration that the Program Committee received within the week after the Declaration was published on the official webpage of the forum. The meeting unanimously decided to stick to the original Declaration text (i.e. as approved by the joint session of the Organizing and Program Committees of 23 March 2012), since the new suggestions were sector-specific recommendations, inappropriate for the conceptual context of the Concluding Declaration. According to the organizers, this final document is kind of social statement intended to address to the society and strategic decision-makers. By this Declaration, the forum participants express their concern with the instability of the current social-and-economic system and explain their collective view on the ways to promote stability of the global economy, power industry and society on the whole.
The session participants suggested that the forum directorate considered the opportunity to prepare an analytical report on the forum outcomes.
