Today the Moscow International Energy Forum (MIEF-2012) «Russian Fuel and Energy Complex in the XXI Century» continued its work. The forum business program included a solemn ceremony of opening the exhibition «Russian Fuel and Energy Complex in the XXI Century», plenary session «World Energy and Sustainable Development in the XXI Century: Tendencies, Challenges and Strategies», three international conferences and one round-table discussion.
Official opening of the exhibition took place at 9:30 a.m. The following persons welcomed the participants and wished them successful work: Y. P. Sentyurin – Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, A. I. Bedritzkiy – Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, Y. A. Lipatov – First Deputy Chairman of Energy Committee of the State Duma, T. D. Williamson – Chairman of the board of directors, O. M. Budargin – Chairman of the management board of OJSC «Federal Grid Company of United Power Grid», and L. M. Rakitina – director general of «Bristol» company.
The plenary discussion was opened at the big hall at 10 a.m. Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, member of MIEF-2012 Organizing Committee A. I. Bedritzkiy announced a greeting to the forum participants of the President of the Russian Federation D. A. Medvedev. Then co-chairman of the Organizing Committee V. E. Mezhevich announced greeting of the Chairman of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation V. I. Matvienko.
The first session of the plenary discussion «Sustainable Development – from the Vision to the Comprehensive Strategy» was devoted to the analysis of strategy of sustainable development in broad context. Lively discussion of participants on the stage, answers to moderator’s questions, answers to questions from the audience, comments of discussion colleagues – all this created the atmosphere of openness and contributed to the deep analysis of the topic with consideration of its various aspects.
The discussion demonstrated exceptional actuality of the problematics in hand and provided a possibility to get a notion about understanding by public officers and expert community their mission in the context of sustainable development. There was vocalized an expert evaluation of the situation with introduction of stable development ideas in the world and in Russia.
The experts demonstrated the main reasons of absence of positive changes in realization of sustainable development principles, including analysis of the world social-economical order and political system of international relations.
Bitter dispute was caused by discussion on the role of energy and power economy in the context of sustainable development.
The second part of the plenary discussion «Business Community: towards the New Mission in the Context of Sustainable Development» gathered on one site representatives of big, mid-sized and small energy businesses. In the focus of speakers’ attention there was an issue of understanding by business-community representatives their mission in the context of sustainable development and readiness to consolidation of efforts in this direction with expert community and authorities. The participants of the discussion analyzed the role and place of corporate stability, as one of key targets of companies’ strategic management. In the course of unindifferent discussion there were demonstrated effective directions of corporate development, in which «green» technologies open broad possibilities of companies’ stability growth. Participants of the discussion paid considerable attention to the task of formation of institutional and legal mechanisms of direct and indirect financial support of business investments into «green» technologies, as well as to increase in companies’ interest in growth of ecological constituent while rendering strategic decisions.
In the second half of the day the business program consisted of international conferences: « Higher Professional Education for Sustainable Power Industry Development: Conceptual Approaches, Models and Strategies, Good Practices», « Sustainable Energy Development and Current Challenges», « Forecasts for the Development of Global Energy: Analysis of Methodologies and Results», and round-table discussion « Problems of Energy Efficiency in Russia».
The first day of the forum business program, in general, demonstrated a lively interest of participants in the declared topic, readiness to participate in discussion of agenda issues in the new creative format, introduced by the forum organizers for the first time.
Concert of young artists of the children music-hall «Seven notes» became a pleasant accomplishment of the day. The show was saluted with cheers.
