MIEF Organizing Committee will hold two-way video conference dedicated to Energy Security of Megapolises

21 October 2010

As a part of preparation to the regular Moscow International Energy Forum «Russian Energy and Fuel Complex in the XXI century» (MIEF-2011), the Organizing Committee of the Forum will hold two-way video conference dedicated to Energy Security of Megapolises on November 25 at 12.00 p.m.

This will be a joint project of MIEF and Russian International News Agency (RIA Novosti), the general information partner of MIEF. Conducted via the studios of RIA Novosti, the video conference will unite Moscow and Saint-Petersburg. Representatives of local government, specialists of grid companies, experts and journalists will discuss on camera the improvement prospects of reliability of energy supply for megapolises

The Moscow City First Deputy Mayor in the Moscow City Government, Head of the Moscow City municipal economy complex Pyotr Biryukov, the Head of the Committee for Energetic and Engineering Support of the Saint Petersburg City Administration Oleg Trishkin, the First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of JSC FGC UES Alexander Bobrov and the Director General of JSC Lenenergo Andrey Sorochinsky have been invited to participate in the discussion.

The principal analyst of the MIEF Alexander Epishov is the moderator of the video conference.

The sustainable economic development of megapolises directly depends on efficient and safe performance of the cities’ energy facilities. Events proved that power failures and faults in the large cities lead to serious economical losses.
It becomes apparent that even where a power reserve is available, the connection of consumers to large power systems is no hundred percent guarantee to avoid major accidents. A set of preventive measures on equipment update and equipment condition monitoring must be accompanied with facilities enabling to run the local power systems independently in case of failure of central power systems.

Implementation of energy-efficient technologies and smart grids, development of alternative power sources and small-scale power generation as well as more extensive use of uninterrupted power supply will also contribute to improvement of energy security of megapolises. These are some of the many topics to be discussed in RIA Novosti media centers during the video conference.
