MIEF-2012 Organizing Committee Co-chairman K.I. Kosachev Takes Offices of Head of Rossotrudnichestvo and Special Representative of the President of Russia for relations with CIS countries

President Medvedev signed the relevant decree on 5 March 2012.

K.I. Kosachev is a professional diplomat. He possesses ten-year experience of lawmaking. Within recent eight years, he headed the Russian State Duma’s Committee for International Affairs and the Russian delegation at PACE. His duties have always supposed constant contact to representatives of CIS states, so he is aware of these countries’ current problems. «Indeed, in different periods of my career, I used to deal with the questions related to the Agency: while being a professional diplomat, working at the Foreign Office, and – for recent years – in public diplomacy within the Duma’s international activities. Surely, I had to have a lot of cooperation with this Agency then», said K.I. Kosachev during the working meeting with the President.

Expert welcomed appointing K.I. Kosachev the head of Rossotrudnichestvo. In particular, L.E. Slutsky, Head of the Russian Duma’s Committee for CIS, PACE Vice-Speaker, expressed hope that Kosachev’s appointment would encourage cooperation between the Committee and the Agency.
