Russian Business Community Interested in Open Discussion of “Sustainable Development in the XXI Century” within the MIEF-2012

1 December 2011

The X Moscow International Energy Forum “Russian Fuel and Energy Complex in the XXI Century” to be held on 4–7 April 2012 in Moscow has become the object of keen interest in the Russian business community.
Many major Russian companies have accepted the Organizing Committee’s invitation to participate in the forum and exhibition “Russian Fuel and Energy Complex in the XXI Century”. Among them are OJSC “Oil Company Rosneft”, OJSC “Russian Railways”, OJSC “Gazprom”, OJSC “Surgutneftegaz”, State Corporation “Rosatom”, OJSC "Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plant", OJSC “Sberbank of Russia”, OJSC “FGC UES” and others.
The main topic of the forum, “World Energy and Sustainable Development in the XXI Century”, is timely both in the global and national contexts.
Practically everywhere in the world people are concerned about their and new generations’ future, disappointed with the inefficient economic policies and discontented with the leaders. And they have objective reasons for that. The current situation features: instability and uncertainty, quick global population growth and, consequently, increased load on the land, energy, food and water resources of the planet. Under such circumstances, the global environmental, social, economic and climate problems tend to escalate, while the politicians and the businessmen fail to offer the way to break the strategic deadlock.
The currently prevailing consumer paradigm hardly contributes to social progress or sustainable development. The global society desperately needs to form the new goals, development principles and approaches that will meet people's wishes and provide a secure, decent and safe future for the coming generations.
By the end of the first XXI century’s decade, the society has reached a strategic deadlock and the recognition of this fact considerably urges the process of establishing the new world order in the context of the sustainable development.
But who will assume the role of the leader and the modification mover? How will the new world order be outlined and framed in the institutional and legal terms? What economic models will be dominant within the coming decades? What will be the pattern of the centers of force to ensure necessary global steadiness, balance and long-term political stability? Will the sustainable development paradigm become the universal strategic platform to modify the world or will it remain an utopian idea not assorting with the real goals of the centers of force and influence in the present day’s world?
The answers to these urgent questions in terms of the global energy problems are the object of the plenary discussion “World Energy and Sustainable Development in the XXI Century: Trends, Challenges and Strategies” to be organized within the MIEF-2012.
The business circles demonstrate much interest to the forum program of international conferences and round tables. There are a number of issues in the economy and its key segment – the fuel and energy complex – that concern both the producers and the consumers. And the forum events are supposed to examine the most pressing and disputable of them.
In particular, the participants will discuss the domestic gas price growth – when the prices and tariffs for other energy sources are restrained – and the problems of the technological updating of the infrastructural branches with lack of investment resources. The improvement of the corporate culture and business transparency in the energy branches, the efficiency of the operational activities and investment programs, the quality of the Russian human capital and the problems of higher school will be covered too.
The Program Committee of the MIEF-2012, attended by the most competent Russian scientists and experts in economics and energy, is actively cooperating with the Russian business circles. All the business community’s proposals concerning the agenda and the concluding documents of the forum will be regarded with due diligence.
